Property Accountant

Location - Northampton

Division - Plumbing & Heating

An excellent opportunity has become available to join the Plumbing & Heating division as a Property Accountant based in Northampton. It’s an exciting time to be joining the division as we embark on a transformation journey to create a stronger, efficient and more profitable business.

Joining us as a Property Accountant means integral part of the Management Accounts team and take ownership and responsibility for all aspects of property accounting. The role requires a close working relationship with the divisional property teams and is required to take a proactive approach in obtaining information from surveyors and administrators to ensure that accurate accounting records are maintained for freehold and leasehold properties. You’ll work closely with Operations and associated Finance teams in order to explain the internal property charges that have been allocated to branch and their method of allocation.

Accountabilities include:

  • Ensure Internal and external lease information entered onto O6ix by the property administrators is up to date and reflects current contractual arrangements

  • Generate and post monthly journals for internal rents, rates, insurance and service charge allocation to branches (using appropriate methods to split charges for multiple brand occupancy)

  • Work with the property team to get up to date and relevant information pertaining to rent review increases and reflect appropriate accruals/increases into the accounts

  • Maintain sublease information in O6ix and raise invoices for sub tenant income

  • Calculate and post lease incentives into the accounts ensuring that the benefit is spread over and appropriate time period to adhere to the “matching concept” accounting principle

  • Reconciliation of rent, rates, insurance and service charge prepayments and accruals

  • Reconciliation of property bank accounts used for all external property related income and


  • Reconciliation of third party rates payments

  • Post journals to allocate third party spend to branches on centralised invoices for facilities

management based on information received from relevant external suppliers providing the service

  • Reconcile control accounts for centralised property related expenditure to ensure that all charges are allocated to the p&lPrepare budget information pertaining to property related expenditure

  • Maintain lease information in LOIS (the leasing software for IFRS16) for all leases and ensure that accounting entries are posted in line with the accounting standard and conform with Group accounting policies

  • Ensure integrity of the balance sheet in relation to property assets and lease associated liabilities

What we’re looking for

You’ll need to be a qualified accountant, with proven commercial and analytical experience, especially with Word and Excel. You’ll have experience of working in a Finance Accounts/Management accounts department with experience of managing databases.
